Bestselling author who has had several works adapted for the screen with varying degrees of success; Brian De Palma's CARRIE (1976), Stanley Kubrick's THE SHINING (1980), David Cronenberg's THE DEAD ZONE (1983) and Rob Reiner's STAND BY ME (1986) and MISERY (1990) stand out. King made a lackluster directorial debut with MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE (1986).
