Zijn carrière begon in 1957 met het uitbrengen van een single, echter zonder veel resultaat. Twee jaar later had hij een topper met "What Do You Want"
Hij had ook succes in TV producties en in een serie drama’s zoals Budgie and Love Hurts,en verscheen daarna nog in een Bowie film Stardust.

He combined his day job as an entertainer with a number of off-shoot careers including financial journalist and music management.

He died in 2003 whilst on tour with a production of "Love and Marriage". It was reported that his last words were: ""Channel 5 is all shit, isn't it? Christ, the crap they put on there. It's a waste of space".
