Amerikaans zangeres (1950 - )

* 12.11.1950 Lafe, Arkansas U.S.A.

Barbara Fairchild signed her first recording contract at age 15; a few years later after impressing music publisher Jerry Crutchfield with her original songs, she moved to Nashville and signed with Kapp Records. Crutchfield arranged an audition with legendary Columbia record producer Billy Sherrill, and before long Fairchild had a handful of singles on the Columbia label: "Love Is a Gentle Thing" and "A Woman's Hand" in 1969, and her own "A Girl Who'll Satisfy Her Man" and "Loving You Is Special" in 1970.

By 1972, after three albums and a string of singles. Fairchild still hadn't scored a hit when an Atlanta DJ played a cut from her A Sweeter Love album called "The Teddy Bear Song."

The station was bombarded with requests for the song, and Columbia. encouraged, released it as a single. By early 1973 it had reached Number one on the country charts and crossed over to the pop charts as well Barbara Fairchild had arrived.

She had several more Top Ten singles in the early 70's, including "Kid Stuff” and "Baby Doll,"  but "The Teddy Bear Song” Vk'ould remain her biggest hit. As a Songwriter under contract to MCA she wrote material for artists such as Loretta Lynn, Liz Anderson and David Sloane.

Fairchild left Colombia in the late l970's. She recorded for some smaller labels, with her final chart entry appearing in 1986. For a time, Fairchild even left music and worked as a waitress. Today, she records sacred material for small, indepen dent labels.
