country rock band

This country-rock band, formed in Lexington, Ken- tucky, in 1963, segued into country music after fleet- ing success in the rock field (with the million selling single, "Kiss Y ou AllOver"), Their heyday came in the 1980'5 with a string of tepid Number One singles, including "Woke Up in Love," "Give Me One More Chance," "Hang on to Your Heart," "She's Too Good To Be True" and "I Can't Get Close Enough.'. Wïth various personnel shifts, Exile continued recording into the early 1990'5. Throughout the years their music has been uniformly pleasant and thoroughly compe- tent, yet hindered by a recurring blandness-in other words, expertly performed "chart fodder."

Original members J,P. Pennington (vocals and lead guitar) and Les Taylor (vocals and rhythm guitar) bath left the band to pursue solo careers. Pennington's debut album, Wbatever It Takes, was released in 1991. Taylor's two solo outings, That Old Desire and Blue Kentucky Wind, were released in 1990 and 1991, respectively.

Other Exile members over the years have included Sonny Lemaire, Steve Goetzmann, Paul Martin, and Lee Carroll.
