Evans, Janet

Janet Evans inspires and entertains as she explains what it takes to become one of the world's top performing athletes. Evans swam herself into fame in the 1988 Olympics where she won the gold medal in three events. She returned to the Olympics four years later and captured a gold and silver medal. Today, Evans is considered the best American distance swimmer in history. She is the winner of 45 U.S. national titles, is the holder of six American records, and is the only female swimmer to ever hold three world records concurrently. She has received a number of awards including four-time World Swimmer of the Year, four-time American Swimmer of the Year, and the American Olympic Committee's 1989 Sportsman of the Year. She was selected as the final torch runner at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Evans has been involved in the American Diabetes Association, performs extensive charity work for Children's Hospital of Orange County, California, and continues to host the annual Janet Evans Invitational swim meet.
