* als Madonna Josephine Davis * 29.6. 1907, St. Paul, Minnesota - † 22.5. 1961, Palm Springs, California, (heart attack)
The daughter of a train dispatcher, she began performing on the stage as a child, and after marrying comedian Sy Wills in 1931,waarvan zij een dochter had Beverly Wills. she teamed up with him in the vaudeville comedy act of Wills and Davis. Upon settling in Hollywood in 1934, she made her screen debut in comedy shorts and appeared in her first feature film the following year. A gangling, loose-jointed, raucous comedienne, who would punch herself in the jaw to produce laughs, she used her knockabout slapstick style in comedy leads and supporting roles in many films through the early 50s. During the 40s she was also highly popular as a radio star, and in 1950 she formed her own production company to produce her own successful TV comedy series, "I Married Joan." Her daughter, Beverly Wills (1934-63), also appeared in occasional films. Filmografie 1935 Way Up Thar .... Jennie Kirk 1935 Millions in the Air .... Singer 1936 Bunker Bean (uncredited) ....
