Sultry brunette who developed into one of Fox's biggest stars of the 1940s and
proved herself capable of a wide range of dramatic roles. Darnell played a hopeful
Hollywood ingenue in STAR DUST (1940), the Virgin Mary in THE SONG OF
BERNADETTE (1943), a classic spitfire in Ford's MY DARLING CLEMENTINE (1946)
and an opportunistic broad from the wrong side of the tracks in A LETTER TO
THREE WIVES (1949). Darnell was married to cinematographer J. Peverell Marley
from 1943 to 1952. She died during a house fire at age 43.
