Dantine came to the US in the late 30s as a fugitive from the German Anschluss of Austria and, after gaining acting experience as a member of the Pasadena Community Players, entered films in 1941. Darkly handsome, with chiseled features, he played leads and second leads in Warner Bros. pictures of the 40s, specializing in Nazi roles during the WWII years. He directed one undistinguished film, THUNDERING JETS (1958). That same year he married actress Nicola Schenck (professional name: Niki Dantine), the daughter of Nicholas M. Schenck, the former president of Loew's, Inc. In 1959, Dantine became vice president and in 1970 president of the Schenck Enterprises film production and distribution organization, after which he appeared only sporadically in pictures.
