CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT
Zanger en journalist (1931)
* 6.3.1931 Durand, Michigan
This Michigan-born DJ (he had a program on KDA in Nashville for a while) and some-time journalist (he wrote liner notes to at least one classic Waylon Jennings album from the early 70's), whose real name was Roger Schun, was a minor but colorful figure in the early 70's Outlaw movement.
Por quite a while, the closest thing he had to a home was the sofa at Glaser Sound Studios at 916 19th Avenue Sotlth, the unofficial "Hillbilly Central" headquarters of the so-calIed Outlaws, which was owned by Outlaw producer/recording artist Tompall Glaser and his brothers. Though Schun himself was neither an artist nor a songwriter, he became, in the words of one survivor from that scene, "a guru...He played pinbalI with Waylon and Tompall, and he knew everybody-he knew the good guys and the bad guys, who to trust and who not to."
When last heard from, Schut t was still around Nashville, still friends with Waylon & Willie and the boys, had gonen married, senled into relative nor- malcy , and was producing a radio show from his home for a Chicago station.
