BOLAND, Mary
Amerikaans film actrice (1880-1965)
* 28.1.1880, Philadelphia, PA - 1965
Convent-educated in Detroit. She followed her father's example and began acting in stock while still in her teens. She made her Broadway debut in 1905 and for a while excelled as a tragedienne, both on the stage and in early silent films. But it was as a comedienne that she would become famous in the theater of the 20s and in Hollywood films of the 30s, portraying with delectable abandon madcap wives and mothers of the scatterbrain variety, memorably opposite Charlie Ruggles in RUGGLES OF RED GAP (1935) and in other films.
