Ab(b)ate ging in 1552 naar Frankrijk en was de derde stichter van de assisteerde daar Primaticcio, was evenals deze maniërist. (School van Fontainebleau).

Aldaar hield hij zich bezig met het maken fresco’s. Hij maakte ook zelfstandig landsxhappen zoals het verhaal van Aristaeus in een collectie Ab(b)ate werd ook bekend als ontwerper van tapijten en emailwerken.

Een deel van zijn oudere schilder-werken (van de fresco's ging veel verloren) bevindt zich in het museum te Modena.

Boven: De dood van Eurydice Canvas, 189.2 x 237.5 cm No. 5283, Presented by the N.A.C.F., 1941. In the middle distance Orpheus charms wild animals; in the left foreground three nymphs are unaware of the assault by the shepherd Aristaeus on the virtue of Eurydice, Orpheus’ wife; centre, the serpent bites her, and right, she dies; further right, Aristaeus consults his mother Cyrene concerning the death of his bees.

On the extreme right is the sea-god Proteus who explained to Aristaeus that the disaster in the hives was a punishment for the pursuit of Eurydice. For his subject see Virgil, Georgics (Book 4). It was probably painted in France where Niccolò worked from 1552 onwards.
